Help translating a textbook exercise

Here's a sentence from my Farsi textbooks that I'm having difficulty translating accurately:

در ایران قدیم رقص هم چون سوارکاری اهمیت داشت و ایرانیان به همان خوبی سوارکاره با رقص نیز آشنا بودند

I know its about dances in ancient Iran, but I'm confused about what it is say, especially the word سوارکاری
which means 'riding', yes?

Hi Steve.In ancient iran there were there kinds of activities which was very important, horse riding, swimming and archery. Here this sentence is going to manifest importance of dancing by comparing it with horse riding.

In ancient Iran dancing was as important as horse riding and Iranians used to know dancing just like horse riding!
