In Marathi (Hindi also),when vowels join with cononants, vowels change into vowel-signs.
अ is inhernt in every consonant sound.
आ→ा इ→ि ई→ी उ→ु ऊ→ू ए→े ऐ→ै ओ→ो औ→ौ
There are 37 consonants in Marathi. Today I learned two of them.
1) क ［ka］ airless sound
क का कि की कु कू के कै को कौ
2) ख ［k'a］ aspirate sound
ख खा खि खी खु खू खे खै खो खौ

antan san , there are two more sounds am and ah .
kam and kah(airless)
kham and khan(aspirated)
I have not installed Marathi font yet but I will soon. I would be glad to help you learn Marathi though I only know the script and few words, I guess I can suggest you many things as it is more or less same as Japanese.
