40th birthday present, technology and love :D

  OOPT

My birthday, as italki usually gets right (more or less) is the 4th of May, next year I'll be "the big 4 0".

Aside from it sounding absolutely; condemningly awful, the good side of it is that my brother has asked me what I'd really like to have.

My honest answer was, "nothing, thanks", but my friends and family wont accept that answer, and my brother wants to "repay me" for sending him to Rio de Janeiro on his 40th, this January 'just gone'.

I had asked everyone I could think of, all of his online friends, my family, everyone, and I was lucky to raise something like £1,300.00, which was enough to send him, fully insured, to see his fiancée in Brazil.
(haha not that he needs insurance because of his fiancée haha)

So I said, "well, my camcorder is 'on it's way out', so maybe a new camera is what I'd get the most use out of".

This has led me down the road of trying to see what various camcorders and still (DSLR) cameras can offer, in terms of picture and video quality.

I'm currently most interested in the Sony A77, I had a play with one today and it seemed to sing to me, "Craig!! I'm everything you need!!!" (and aside from the lovely girl I saw in Pani's cafe, who I swear was looking at me, it seems to be!)

Ohhh it was really nice, I was fantasising about all the lovely videos and photos that I could put on my website.

As we say, it was a pretty "serious bit of kit"; fully weather proof; instant autofocus; 20+Mp; lovely; built like a tank, DSLR.

Could it be my new camera for the next 5-10 years of my life?? I've loved my triple CCD Panasonic camcorder for so long, I'm a bit upset to leave it, but it's dying on me.

The only worry for me is the "rolling shutter" problem which is inherent to all CMOS chips, that's why I prefer CCDs, but CMOS is the current standard: to be honest though, I couldn't detect any on the brief video I took this afternoon in the shop.

I feel so bad, asking for such an expensive present, but it's about the only thing I want or need.

Shame I don't earn enough money to claim it back in tax, being self employed now :)

Kerrin, my bro, keeps asking, do you want to go to Dubai? Anywhere? Drive a Lamborghini? A helicopter??

And a new camera is all I would really love............apart from that lovely girl in Pani's, why didn't I smile at her, or say, "Hello!"?
Too shy, I suppose.

:)
