I HAVE A QUESTION!!!!!

Yes. It's like a gerund.

朝ご飯を食べたのは八時でした。

Literally,

"'ate breakfast' was eight o'clock."

is the more Japanese way of saying...

"It was eight o'clock when I had breakfast."

Using the same construct,

家に着いたのは夜でした。

Literally,

"'got home' was a night time."

is the more Japanese way of saying...

"It was a night time when I got home."

I HAVE A QUESTION!!!!!

So in my textbook, there's a sentence that goes like this:

朝ご飯を食べたのは八時でした。
(Asagohan o tabeta no wa hachiji deshita)
The time I ate breakfast was 8 o'clock.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND... why "の” is in there. It says it's a "nominalizer"--> it makes something into a noun.

I don't know. I don't understand why it's there -D-

I don't know whether I can explain well or not　but I think the "の" can replace "時間”
ex) 朝ご飯を食べたのは八時でした。

         ↓

　　　朝ご飯を食べた時間は八時でした。

帰宅したのは１０時をまわっていた。（１０時を過ぎていた）

　　　　　↓

帰宅した時間は１０時をまわっていた。（１０時を過ぎていた）

勉強をするのは　楽しいです。　の＝　こと　（learning is fun)
