How can teachers help to arouse students' learning motivation?
The above question was the topic for my psychology assginment. Even though I have learnt the theory of arousing students' intrinsic and extrinsic motivations in learning. It is still very difficult to put them into practice.
One of my students, a primary one student(grade one),hates learning Putonghua so much.He needs to learn Putonghua because it is the language medium used for Chinese lessons at school. I've tried a wide range of methods to arouse his learning motivation: singing , dancing and also playing games with him.Yet, none of them was effective. He would speak in Putonghua for a while only after receiving my gifts. At the previous lesson, I explained his problem to his mother. The little boy was standing besides his mum, telling me that he really hates Putonghua. He would never talk to a person who speaks Putonghua. His mum also told me that he refused to watch his favourite cartoon if it is in Putonghua.
Can anyone give me some advice to help my student??Or just tell me what are the attractions of learning Chinese(especially Putonghua).
