Valuable Goods

Last weekend we tidied up the basement. On Monday I moved two TVs, one monitor and two PCs to the recycling center run by the municipal waste management company ("Wertstoffhof" literally means yard for substances of value).

This garbage disposal was surprisingly for free. Everything else will cost you a lot of money to throw away.

The supervisor showed me where I have to had to/would have to schlep my valuable materials to. I didn't ask him whether the devices would be disassembled by hand in Ghana or India and how much the waste facility gets would get for my valuable scrap.

While I was schlepping the reusable materials in the shown container ("in" because it was a really big one and I had to go in it) I watched another gray skinned victim of the Hartz laws in his natural habitat.
The sub-sub-sub contractor emptied a charitable organization's used clothes container.

He was driving an at least 20 year old Ford station wagon. The car was already packed full with used clothes. He packed the clothes from this container in a trailer with run-down summer tires.

In the old days Plünnhöker (literally: rag merchant - I appreciate a plain and honest term) was a honorable profession, then came the clothing donation depositing in a valuable-goods-container.

I like these little slice-of-life pieces. Just a couple of very minor issues with reported speech.
