I had this idea come to my mind, because I was riding in a car last night as snow was falling and the county's road trucks were out. In certain conditions of course water can freeze on a road surface leading to an obvious hazard. The present solution to this is to lay down salt. The salt can be expensive (maybe, it must be to a certain extent) and it takes time and manpower to distribute. So my though was that if it would be possible to lay a heating coil in the road surface. This would I guess me powered via electricity. This technology already works in the defrosters in car windows. There would of course be a cost involved involved, and it would not be practical to install this in most existing roads. However, this might be practical for use on bridges, which can freeze more quickly, at least according to road signs. And in the unlikely event that this were to be implemented, many public works employees would have less work, which could have a harmful effect on the economy.
