Ich mag Essen: Äpfel, Reis, und Ei.

Usual we not use them like this, it depends on, what you want to say.

Ich mag folgende Speisen: Äpfel, Reis und Eier

or

Ich esse gerne: Äpfel, Reis und Eier

--- i like to eat: xxxxxx

"das Essen," - the food as itself and "essen" - eating (the verb)

Because Essen and essen sounds the same, verb and noun, it sounds somewhere not 100% in german language, so u better u use: i like foods like and replace "Essen" with "Speisen" or u use "essen" as a verb, but than u use them in the form "esse"
