Noruz, Persian New Year
The word, Noruz, means new day. We celebrate our new year ceremony at the beginning of spring on Persian calender, the time that nature makes itself alive again.
We put seven plates contain seven things which start with S(in their Persian words) such as: sumac, garlic, apple, brunet grass, vinegar, Samanou(a kind of dish prepared from the juice of wheat) and sea buckthorn, we call them Haftsin. We also put the book of Hafez poems or Quran(or any kind of holy books), a mirror, hyacinth flower and some sweets.
When it is the time of new year, families sit on the chairs around Haftsin, after kissing and hugging and saying congratulation to each other, normally older people give some money as a praise to younger people.
Noruz is an old ceremony that were celebrating from thousand years ago in Persia until now. It is shown on stones in historical buildings and it is celebrating among other nations that used to belong to Iran.
Picture below is how Haftsin looks like. :-)
