저는 한국어를 배우려고 해요

So today my Korean friend told me that ending a verb in 려고 해 is one way of saying "Trying to (do something)"
저는 한국어를 배우려고 해.
But i think 려고 해 is informal, right? So I think I should make it,
려고 해요. or..
려고 합니다. I get the feeling i am missing something though.
How to say, I tried to study? I think..
려고 했어요.
나는 오늘 한국어를 배우려고 해요.

    and you're right. 려고 해 is informal.

    저는 is formal and 나는 is informal.

    나는 오늘 한국어를 배우려고 해요.
