Should universities accept the equal numbers of male and female students in every subject ? Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree? .................. Among educationalists as well as parents there is probably growing concern expressed over the question of how to improve the learning environment in universities. As a matter of fact, it is suggested that universities should not accept equal proportion of male and female students in every subject. This appear to be thought-provoking problem. The people who choose to support the view above can offer good few points. In particular, it is true to think that men and women have their own strong points in studying, the example taken is that male students have a tendency to be good at science subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, physical, while the latter are as often as not good at the subjects relating to art or communication skill. One additional plus point can be that grouping students depended on the gender can help them only concentrate on and develop their strong points. This is seen ti be easier for them to obtain their later career goals. Nevertheless, not all people choose to agree with the view about. In fact, there are many who strongly believe that a number of male and female students in universities should be equal in every subject. Their strongest argument is that it s not exact to depend on the factor of sex for determining which subject the student is good at. Moreover, the modern world has a tendency to frown upon the sexism, so the universities should look into the students ' performances in studying before making any judgment. People still cast about for the answer of the question of whether universitites should accept equal percentage of male and female students in every subject. However, I am inclined to think that under no circumstances should universities depend on the factor of sex to choose which subject a student belongs to, but instead should create the equality in the learning environment and let the performance of each student be the answer.

I agree with Jmat that universities should access applicants on a case-by-case basis. If universities were to take the gender of applicants into consideration in the admission process in order to have an equal number of males and females, it would, by definition, lead inevitably to gender discrimination. Consider a scenario where there are more qualified female applicants than there are male applicants in one particular year, if the admission committee were to exclude the excessive female applicants, only because of their gender, would it not amount to gender discrimination?

My opinion is that if equality is forced, then it is only superficial. Universities should admit students on a case-by-case basis, based on academic merits alone - the ratio of genders of those admitted should then naturally reflect tose of the applicants.
