Hi Richard, I think that's a good way to learn about the sounds and improve your pronunciation. But that will not teach you the grammar part very efficiently. I think you must pay attention to both parts if you want to speak good English.
Also I think the more you understand the grammar first, the easier it is to hear the sounds, because you know the structure of the sentences and therefore your brain knows what kinds of sounds to expect. I hope this makes sense.
