TOEFL practice:Successful people try new things than doing what they already know how to do well. Some people claim that successful people have more interest in trying new things and taking risks than doing what they have already mastered. However, from my point of view, successful people spend more time on the thing that they know well than trying different things; nevertheless, successful people change or expand the field they focus on to meet the environment changes. Actually, focusing on one thing and improving it every day are the reasons why these people become successful. First, people who concentrate on one special thing for years and persist longer than others become the winners. For instant, Ma Huateng who is the president of the largest internet company Tencent in China, asking his team to develop and update the communication software QQ for more than ten years. By such a long time accumulation, they gained several hundred millions customers. This large amount of customers guaranteed that he and his company can beat any competitor in this market. Next, wise people don’t move on to other projects and interests, but rather they improve the products and interests that they’re already doing well. The Olympic champions often achieved the top level of one or two sports, but most of them keep training and drills to overcome themselves after they gained gold medals in Olympics. These kinds of spirit lead to their incredible success. Last but not least, due to the changeable social and economic environment, successful people also attempt new things at the right time. There is also an example come from Ma Huateng and Tencent. As smart phone became more and more popular, Ma started a new program to develop a new software which can satisfy the need (meet the need) of communicating more easily and fluently through phone. The new software is We Chat, which is most popular application in phone in China now. On the one hand, if Ma didn’t dare to take risk to develop new product, We Chat would not be exist and continue the successful progress of Ma and his company. On the other hand, the main function/purpose of We Chat is almost the same as QQ, therefore, We Chat is the expanding of QQ under different situation. In conclusion, successful people prefer to focus on one thing than experiencing new things. If they want to take risks, the only reason is that they want to keep their advantages in this field by changing correctly.
