Free time It was supposed to be an article (CAE), now I'm not sure if it really is one. Could someone correct it (only native speakers)? Free time - now and 20 years ago Have you ever been thinking how your parents spent their spare time when they were in your age? As the way we live is changing constantly, it is worth to give some thought to this matter. Some of us do not even know what it means to have free time. We overwork to earn more and more money, to save money, but then we do not know what to do with them or we are becoming too mean to spend it on pleasures. And our children? They do not know what a hard work means, they get what they want no matter how much it costs. They are spoilt and lazy. We do not oppose when they spend all the time in front of a computer playing stupid computer games that do not learn them nothing new. Do we read books? Less and less every year. Do we go to theaters? What for? We have cinemas, they are much more fun! We can watch a movie in 3D. That is awesome, right? We travel, probably much more than our parents and grandparents. It does not matter, because during the holiday we usually lay on the beach simply doing nothing or we go at a party and drink until we get completely drunk! I often feel sorry about it. Of course there are some exceptions, but it is sad that we do not use all the possibilities we have. Our parents could feel envy since they did not have a chance to travel, to use internet, to learn foreign languages. They usually read books or meet their friends. Some of them did not have much free time, according to the fact that they had to earn their own money to study and live on their own. All of this leads me to the conclusion that we do not respect what we have. Nowadays many things are more accessible than 20 years ago, but we are taking all this for granted. Unless someone starts to make people aware of what they are doing, they will become very empty and vain.

Have you ever been thinking how your parents spent their spare time when they were your age? As the way we live is changing constantly, it is worth giving some thought to this matter.
Some of us do not even know what it means to have free time. We work too much in order to earn more and more money, to save money, but then we do not know what to do with it or we are becoming too mean to spend it on pleasures. And our children? They do not know what hard work means, they get what they want no matter how much it costs. They are spoilt and lazy. We do not disagree when they spend all the time in front of a computer playing stupid computer games that do not teach them anything new. Do we read books? Less and less every year. Do we go to the theater? What for? We have cinemas, they are much more fun! We can watch a movie in 3D. That is awesome, right? We travel, probably much more than our parents and grandparents. It does not matter, because during the holiday we usually lay on the beach simply doing nothing or we go to a party and drink until we get completely drunk!
I often feel sorry about this. Of course there are some exceptions, but it is sad that we do not use all the opportunities we have. Our parents might feel envious since they did not have a chance to travel, to use internet, to learn foreign languages. They usually read books or met up with their friends. Some of them did not have much free time, especially due to the fact that they had to earn their own money to study and live on their own.
All of this leads me to the conclusion that we do not appreciate what we have. Nowadays many things are more accessible than 20 years ago, but we are taking all this for granted. Unless someone starts to make people aware of what they are doing, they will become very shallow and vain.

Have you ever thought about how your parents spent their spare time when they were in your age? As the way we live is changing constantly, it is worth giving some thought to this matter.
Some of us do not even know what it means to have free time. We work too much to earn more and more money, to save money, but then we do not know what to do with them or we are becoming too mean to spend it on pleasures. And our children? They do not know what a hard work means, they get what they want no matter how much it costs. They are spoilt and lazy. We do not stop them when they spend all their time in front of a computer playing stupid computer games that do not teach them anything new. Do we read books? Less and less every year. Do we go to the theater? What for? We have cinemas, they are much more fun! We can watch a movie in 3D. That is awesome, right? We travel, probably much more than our parents and grandparents did. It does not matter, because during the holiday we usually lay on the beach simply doing nothing or we go at a party and drink until we get completely drunk!
I often feel sorry (guilty may be better? but sorry can work too!) about this. There are some exceptions to this, but it is sad that we do not use all the opportunities we have. Our parents probably feel envious since they did not have a chance to travel, to use the internet or to learn foreign languages. They usually read books or met up with their friends. Some of them did not have much free time, due to the fact that they had to earn their own money to study and live on their own.
All of this leads me to the conclusion that we do not respect what we have. Nowadays many things are more accessible than 20 years ago, but we are taking all this for granted. Unless someone starts to make people aware of what they are doing, they will become very shallow and vain.
