Do We Wait Anything More from Ourselves? This Saturday I was present at my technical university group reunion. Thirty years ran out almost unnoticed. My friends acquired grey hairs, balds, bellys. Many of us moved from our home town. And in spite of all these years, we were glad to see each other. I can look at my friends with thirty years old eyes when we were young, fervent and were going to descend to hell to straighten it up. We had an excellent time. But I noticed one disquiet thing for me: my friends stopped to boast their own achievements, but began to tell about achievements of their children and grandchildren. Don't we really wait anything from our life? Had we all been stepping into a band of a shadow? I feel myself uneasy!

Do We Expect Anything More from Ourselves?

This Saturday, I was present at my technical university's group reunion. Thirty years had run by (variants: "had passed by" "had elapsed) [1] almost unnoticed. My friends had acquired grey hair, bald heads [2], and bellies. Many of us had moved away from our home town. And in spite of all these years, we were glad to see each other. I could/was able to look at my friends with eyes that were thirty years older than [3] when we were young, fervent, and were going to descend into hell to straighten it up. We had an excellent time. But I noticed one disquieting thing for me: my friends stopped boasting of their own achievements, and began to tell about achievements of their children and grandchildren. Don't we really expect anything from our own lives? Had we all been stepping into a band of a shadow? I feel myself uneasy!

[1] The past perfect sounds good, because all of this happened in the past before your group reunion.

[2] If only an certain area of head is bald, we call it a "bald spot."

[3] I had to guess a bit at what you were trying to say.

What could make a father or grandfather happier than to see his children and grandchildren doing well?
