Laymen It has been 9 days since the cruise ship accident happened. Many people are still angry because some politicians's behaviors were not really proper. I guess that they can't be forgiven in a long time. When I see the news about the accident everyday, I still feel guilty and sorry. Sometimes, I felt like bursting into tears, but tried to calm down. I am sure that everyone feels like me. On the other hand, I have seen many people who volunteer for the victims' families. They are laymen. I saw that taxi drivers were driving and cooks were making food for them. They said to us, "I can't just live as if I had not seen anything. Although I couldn't rescue the victims, I want to help people remained." While I see the two different groups - the politicians and laymen -, I realize that only We can make the world better. Even though the politicians have power, honor, and money, they can't do anything whenever people need to gather together and do something. What are their power and knowledge for? Many people have been disappointed with their careless words and behaviors. However, laymen has been doing something useful to help each other though they haven't had any fame or power. They has been making the world better by gathering together in every crisis. I have been reminded of how many good people are living here and how great we have been in every crisis during the whole history. Life should go on.

Laymen

It has been 9 nine* days since the cruise ship accident happened.
Many people are still angry because some politicians's behaviors were not really proper [=(rather, quite) inappropriate].
I guess that they can't [=will not be] be forgiven in a long time.

When I see the news about the accident everyday, I still feel guilty and sorry.
Sometimes, I felt like bursting into tears, but I tryied** to calm down.
I am sure that everyone feels like me.

On the other hand, I have seen many people who volunteer for the victims' families. They are laymen [=ordinary, average people].
I saw that taxi drivers were driving (the families around) and cooks were making food for them.
They said to us, "I can't just live as if I had not seen anything. Although I couldn't rescue the victims, I want to help people remained [=the families left behind].***"

While I see the two different groups - the politicians and laymen -, I realize that only We can make the world better. Even though the politicians have power, honor, and money, they can't do anything whenever people need to gather [=band] together and do something. What are their power and knowledge for? Many people have been disappointed with their careless words and behaviors. However, laymen has been doing something useful to help each other though they haven't had any fame or power. They hashave been making the world better by gathering together [=uniting] in every crisis. I have been reminded of how many good people are living here and how great we have been in every crisis during the (our) whole history.

Life should go on.

Excellent job! I'm a New Yorker and I experienced September 11 first-hand, so I can relate to the toll of this national tragedy on one's psyche. I wish you strength, generosity and courage.

*Numbers up to ten are spelled out in written English; from 11 on, they can be left numerical.

**Since the situation is still happening, the present tense is more appropriate to use here.

***"Left behind" is a euphemism we use in the context of people who survive the death of a loved one.
