Language learning I am here to improve my English, I have studied the language for about six years at school but I'm not fluent: my vocabulary is limited, I am not confident to speak and I have problems to understand listening. Six year and poor knowledge! I think the explanation is that once in Italy we studied English at 'Scuola Media' at the age of 11 to 13 and then at 'Scuola superiore' at the age of 14-18 but we started from the beginning everytime. Teching method were poor: boring books, few basic conversation (answer-question), no real language listening. I had to use English at the University and now sometimes at work but I fell I have lost so much in the early years. You, young learners, are lucky: I hope teaching methods have been improved; now there are many opportunities to practice a foreign language: you can watch movies with/without subtitles; you can use socials to find people to talk (I think it is the best way); you can listen to songs and see the words you do not understand,; you have online vocabularies. The answer seems the Web in most cases. I use them all, my regret is that I have few time to 'study' (is a pleasure to study in this way!) because I have a family, little children and a work. If I were 20 I would have studied at least four languages!

Hi! Monica. I am Foirello M. Botis 18 yrs old. I'm a Filipino. I live here in Italy, Milan for about a year. I'm immigrant here in Italy. I am fluent in speaking in English because it's our second language. Now I'm studying Informatica in Luigi Galvani Scuola. Actually I studied Informatica in University in our country (Philippines) so I just decided to continue my studies here. I have very very few Italian friends but they are to shy to talk to me because they need to repeat again and again for me to understand. I am very frustrated now, honestly. So I hope you can help me in learning Italian language and in return I can also help you in learning English language. Thanks in advance! :)))

Hi Monica. You only need a little time every day. And the good thing is that, despite everything, your English has 'survived' and seems to be doing well! Complimenti!
