How do you write day and dates in English

it always makes me confused to write down the date and day in English.

Friday, March 3rd

Friday, 3rd of March

My another concern is that do we need a comma here?

Hi Eric.  It's probably a matter of personal preference with how we write our dates, but either of these two are best.  I would use the first one probably.  And if you don't need to say the day specifically you could always just say March 3rd ... We often just use numbers though 03/03/2014
