My colleague ate sweet melon in coffee

Today, one of my colleagues today tried a new way to eat sweet melon - he ate it in the coffee! Jesus! That's something sweet mixed with something bitter - how's that supposed to be delicious? Still, he seemed really enjoy it, am I in a bizzare bizarre world?  [Yes!]

Using commas to join two related main clauses is called 'comma splicing' and it isn't correct English, although many English people use it (because many of us were not taught English grammar very well at school).  Using a dash (my favourite piece of punctuation, along with brackets) is the informal way to link the clauses; a semi-colon is the formal way.  However, hardly anyone uses semi-colons in everyday writing.
