What does « au pair » mean?

Next year, I hope go to the USA to be « jeune fille au pair ».

In exchange for a free room, board and laundry, I’ll help parents to take care of their children and I’ll do some housework [collective word].

I hope I’ll discover a new and interesting culture. I also want to meet many people.
I am a little worried because I am scared that my host family might be a little strange. But in the USA, the "au pair" program is very good because an association will accompany [better word could be "support"] me throughout my stay.

Until I go to the USA, I am trying to improve my English gradually. [not sure what you mean by "prepare my file"]

Have a good time in the USA. Well done.
