Why do you study/Why are you learning the Russian language?
A lot of people learn some language for travel, work or study in the USA (for example).
Why do you study Russian ? You can't travel with it... Maybe work? I don't know.. Do you want to study in Russia? I think not)
So.. What do you want to take from Russian?
I know you want to use the "u" instead of "you" because it's populare in text messages, online chat, and other things, but it's best not to use it. Especially if you're just beginning the learn a language. I know a lot of students who try to use IM shortcuts in English and do it incorrectly - better to learn the language first and use the shortcuts later.
I know a lot of people who study Russian for different reasons. One girl I know read Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and loved it so much that she decided to learn Russians just so she could read it in the original language in which it was written. I know a guy who is absolutely obsessed with Russian history, particularly the role the Soviet Union played in WWII. A handful of people study Russian because it's becoming more and more important politically, others actually do want to travel to Russia, and plenty of people simply love languages and understanding the basics of Russian really opens the doors to learning other Slavic languages. There are many reasons to study Russian, you see)
I sometimes ask myself the same question: "Why am I studying Russian? I don't need it." Then I remember the reason: I like it a lot!

I think that every language is important. I don't study Russian but if I were to study it, I wouldn't mind. You can learn many things in Russia too, Russia also has an interesting technology, good sport schools, a good military. But most importantly to better relate and to understand the people of a country is to study their language. Also just showing interest in their language, may help build relationships, whether they are social or romantic.
P.S Maybe because Russia has many beautiful girls who are single? )))
