IELTS writing task 2 answer (10) (why don't people take action to protect environment?) Question: "Many people think it is very important to protect environment but they make no effort to do it themselves. Why does it happen? How to solve this problem? " Answer: Environmental deterioration is widely acknowledged to have posed a threat to human survival, however, environmental protection sometimes lack of efforts at individual level. I believe that various factors lead to this, and actions should be taken to mitigate this problem. It is true that many are aware of the significance of environmental protection, but they may be ignorant about how their small mistakes can harm the whole community. These people believe that minor errors like eating with disposable chopsticks regularly and using detergent containing phosphate will not endanger the biosphere that mankind shares. This is particularly pronounced in those developing countries where people pay little attention to things other than economic development. Another major cause of people’s lack of action is that environmental protection may require extra efforts or even money. Compared to the lifestyles adopted by many, an environmentally friendly way of living may be inconvenient. For example, people have to spend extra minutes to divide their household garbage into piles of recyclable and non-recyclable and pay for larger credit card bills if they choose to equip their homes with fluoride-free refrigerators and air conditioners. There are actions that governments could take to address this problem. One would be to launch more awareness campaigns to educate citizens regarding, for instance, waste disposal, and thus raise their awareness of potential harmful effects that caused by their small actions. A second measure would be for governments to introduce laws to discourage non-environmentally friendly lifestyles: governments can impose high fuel tax on commuters choosing to drive private cars to work instead of taking public transportation. In conclusion, people do not act to protect environment even if they realize the significance of environment protection due to ignorance and not willing to sacrifice their own interests and so forth, and governments should take steps to solve this problem.

Answer:

Environmental deterioration is widely acknowledged to have posed as posing a threat to human survival.  However, environmental protection sometimes lacks efforts made at the individual level.  I believe that various factors lead to this, and actions should be taken to mitigate this problem.

It is true that many are aware of the significance of environmental protection, but they may be ignorant about how their small mistakes can harm the whole community. These people believe that minor errors like eating with disposable chopsticks regularly and using detergent containing phosphates will not endanger the biosphere that mankind shares. This is particularly pronounced in those developing countries where people pay little attention to things other than economic development.

Another major cause of people’s lack of action is that environmental protection may require extra efforts or even money. Compared to the lifestyles adopted by many, an environmentally-friendly way of living may be inconvenient. For example, people have to spend extra minutes to divide their household garbage into of recyclable and non-recyclable piles.  They may also have pay for larger credit card bills if they choose to equip their homes with fluoride-free refrigerators and air conditioners.

There is actions that governments can take to address this problem. One idea is would be to launch more awareness campaigns to educate citizens regarding, for instance, waste disposal, and thereby raise their awareness of the potential harmful effects that are caused by their small actions. A second measure would be for governments to introduce laws to discourage non-environmentally- friendly lifestyles: governments could impose high fuel taxes on commuters choosing to drive private cars to work instead of taking public transportation.

In conclusion, people do not act to protect the environment even if they realize the significance of environmental protection.  This is due to ignorance and an unwillingness to sacrifice their own interests and so forth, As a result, governments should take steps to solve this problem.
