")chunks("
There is a polyglot named Olly Richards who wrote something very interesting: that native speakers talk in “chunks”, which are groupings of several words the brain stores as atomic entities. For instance: “I don’t know” or “I have more than”. By contrast, foreign speakers generally attempt to learn, and to speak with, single words. Olly suggests learning the chunks instead of the words. With God’s help, I generally already know many Hebrew words, but I see now that I err constantly with “chunks”. It seems to me that the benefit I receive from italki is that we can see the corrections to errors that we make, eighty percent with chunks. Usually, people don’t correct me in conversation, because then we are concentrating on communication.
