Tomoko先生、レッスン5（文法）-～ようだ、～そうだ、～らしいだ、～みたいだ
1. ～ようだ
a) Some (obvious) conclusion from what one can feel (see, hear, touch, taste or smell).
（見る） この果実は食べられないようだ。- This berry looks inedible.
（聞く） やかんのお湯がもう沸騰したようだ。- Seems like the kettle has boiled.
（触る） ジュースは冷えているようだ。- Seems like the juice has been cooled down (e.g. just from fridge).
(I would say 冷えたようだ for "has been cooled down".)
（味わう）このケーキはおいしくて母が作るケーキのようだ。- This cake is so delicious, just like my Mum makes. (I would say このケーキは母が作るケーキのようにおいしい。)
（嗅ぐ） この近くで花が咲いているくようだ。- Seems like there's some flowers are blowing somewhere around.
b) As if...
何かいい事を思い出しているかのすような(or 思い出したかのような)表情
子供は静かになって、まるで難しい問題を考えるようだ。(I would say 子供はまるで難しい問題を考えているかのように静かになった。)
2. ～らしい
Conclusion, based on:
a) based on what one has seen|heard （＝ようだ）(and what could be one's own suggestion, not obviously understood by seen|heard fact)
（朝に窓からみて） 夜は雨が降ったらしい。
（そらを見上げて） 明日は晴れるらしい。(I would say 晴れそうだ in this case.)
（友達の電話を聞いて）彼はもうすぐ帰るらしい(or 帰ってくるらしい)。
b) news, gossip, etc （！＝ようだ）
この時間とき、日本ではとても暑いらしい。
あの記事によると公園の再建が終わったらしい。
c*）avoke a strong feeling of ~;
最近、雨らしい雨がなかった。
冬らしい絵。 (Looking at the picture you can almost feel the snowflakes melted on your face)
d*) appropriate for ~
時々、大人らしくすることができません。- Sometimes I just can't act as an adult.
(In my opinion, 大人らしくする doesn't sound natural. I would say 大人としてふるまう.)
春らしい衣服 - Clothes that is appropriate for Spring.
Question:
can らしい be used to say something that is not real: 男らしい女 or 大人らしい子供？
I've read somewhere that it can not be, but as well I can say that I've seen such examples in other sources.
--> I would say 男っぽい女性、大人っぽい子供
3. ～そうだ
a) Direct conclusion from situation:
- just about to; at any moment（from what is seen）
虎が飛びそうだ。(I would say 飛び出しそうだ for "comes out" or 飛んで行きそうだ for "flies away".)
電車が行きそうだ。(I would say 発車/出発しそうだ or 行ってしまいそうだ.)
- state（from what is seen）
暑そうで(or だから)、行きたくない。
- presentiment (предчувствие)
明日のパーティは、楽しそうだ。（？） - Чувствую, завтра будет весело.
- conclusion from the current physiological state
疲れた...今から寝そうだ。(I would say すぐにでも寝てしまいそうだ.)
b) Describe smth by it's appearance
重そうなバッグ
元気そうな人
c) Decision or suggestion based on the situatiation
明日、センターには行かないほうがよさそうだ。 (E.g. there's gonna be some meetings and so on)
d) quoting news, gossip (without saying it's a one's opinion too)
彼は先生だそうだ。
パーティは楽しいそうだ。
4. ～みたい
Colloquial variant of a ～ようだ
