FCE practice Dear Mr Williams I am an English student looking for an English school in London. I read an advertisement at my university from the Big Ben School. I would like you to answer some questions for me about the course and school. First, I want to know how many students there are in each class, I really prefer a course with few students, because this way it is easier for the teacher to solve each student’s questions. The reason I am asking this is that I have had bad experiences with crowded English courses, where it is difficult to ask the teacher a question due to the amount of students in the classroom. How many students are there in the school? Are there more than 200 students at the school? Second, I want to ask about the qualifications the teachers have at this school, if they have a bachelor in English or in some other field. I have hired native English speakers tutors but they did not major in English and sometimes it is hard for them to explain some grammar topics. My next question is related to the type of resources that school has to teach English such as videos, books and so on. I really enjoy watching videos and reading books to learn. Additionally, I would like to know what amenities are in the area close to school, in my opinion it is very important to know what to do after classes, especially which activities I could do to improve my spoken English outside of the classroom. Finally, I would like to receive information about the price of the course which says what is included in the course, how long a lesson is each day, what materials are covered with the tuition and how many weeks each course last. Yours faithfully.

Dear Mr Williams,

I am an English student looking for an English school in London. I read an advertisement at my university for the Big Ben School. I would like you to answer some questions for me about the courses there and the school.

First, I want to know how many students there are in each class. I really prefer courses with few students, because this way it is easier for the teacher to address or "to answer" each student’s questions. The reason I am asking this is that I have had bad experiences with crowded English courses (before), where it is difficult to ask the teacher a question due to the amount of students in the classroom. Also, how many students are there in the school? Are there more than 200 students at the school?

Secondly, I want to ask about the qualifications the teachers have at this school and if they have a bachelors in English or in some other field. I have hired native Englishspeaking tutors in the past or "before" but they did not major in English and sometimes it was hard for them to explain some grammar points to me.

My next question is related to the type of resources that your school has to teach English such as videos, books, and so on. I really enjoy watching videos and reading books to learn. Additionally, I would like to know what amenities are in the area close to the school; in my opinion, it is very important to know what there is to do after class, especially which activities I could do or "could partake in" or "could get involved in" to improve my spoken English outside of the classroom.

Finally, I would like to receive information about the price of each course along with what is included with them, how long a lesson is each day, what materials are covered with the tuition, and how many weeks each course lasts.

Yours faithfully.

Very well done!
