Big little city [when you ask natives the opposite of "big" we say "little" not "small".]

I live in the second largest city in my country. Today was a really hot day, and so my friend and I thought to we would go out and somehow to have some fun. We went to the main city street. We were confident that there we would meet our friends, or also maybe even make some new acquantances. But there was noone! [<em>noone </em>is technically correct, but it looks wrong because of the doubled vowel. Most natives prefer <em>no one.</em>] How could this be? Where are all the teenagers, where is all the youth? And so, our mood went from the beautiful became to sad and patheric!  I hate my city!
