The road less traveled

Life is difficult. That is the first sentence of the first chapter of a book entitled, "The Road Less Traveled," written by M. Scott Peck, who is a popular psychiatrist in the United States. Acknowledging the fact that life is not smooth and comfortable as we suppose it should be is often the first step to get out of misery.

We have various problems: procrastinating due to fear and anxieties, restless minds because of the unpredicable future, attempts to blame others for the simple reason that we are not strong enough to confront ourselves, etc. However, all of these do not affect that we have always admired those who could seize the moment at present, forgetting about the past and not hiding behind fantasies of the future.

Whenever we think we are cornered or in a dilemma, there is always a hidden way out. But taking the road less traveled by apparently requires a huge amount of courage. It is one thing to say it, but it is quite another to actually do something. That is the reason why we pray, so desperately and urgently, in the hope of a path that could lead us not to tempetation.  (I am unclear of the meaning of this final sentence - ?)
