Eventually, he decided to get a stand-up comedy career with his father's support. During this time, he had bad moments, but he persevered and finally made the big jump to Hollywood. To sum up, Jim carrey had to go through a lot, from being a homeless to work as a janitor in a factory.

very good. i would just say including because he his career did not stop at being a janitor, which is what <em>from..... to.... </em>implies.  But of course I understood anyway
