The Bell in the Continuing Rain
Bitter is the cold cicada
Facing the evening pavilion
The sudden rain finally stopped not long ago.
In the curtained tents1 outside the capital's gates, I drink without mood
My heart thinks of elsewhere
The boat2 is urging me
Hands a holding but looking with tears
Unexpectedly, infinite words inside were not choked up 3
I think of the journey,
千里烟波, a thousand miles of mist and ripples/waves
The evening haze is thick and dense but the skies clear and wide
Since time immemorial, the passionate part in sorrow
Worse still is in this cold and desolate autumn!
Tonight, as I awakened from my stupor, where will I be?
The willow and polar banks
The morning wind and the morning moon4
This separation will turn into a year after year affair.
Everything's5 so lovely but in name only.
Even if a thousand mien
更与何人说? with whom can I speak of?
