Shyness: a big problem for learning new languages
Since I was a little child, I have enjoyed reading and listening to new languages. However, speaking is another matter...I'm aware that it's absolutely necessary to speaking if I want to have be fluent cy. But I'm just too shy! It's very hard for me speaking with stangers even in Spanish, my mother tongue. In English, it seems impossible! I stutter, I lose my voice and I'm not able to remember remind the most simple words and structures. Anyway, I'm trying to overcome this handicap. Could someone could advice me?
Hi Vanessa,
What you need is a person to speak to who you can trust. Shyness comes from not knowing the person, or whether they are going to make fun of you, or criticise you. One way to start might be to send a message to one of the teachers and start a conversation, and ask them about their teaching style, if they can be patient with a person like you, and then if you think they are honest and genuine, schedule a voice only class. That way they can't see you and the class will be just like have a telephone call. You can learn quite a bit from a voice only lesson, so it isn't worse.
Good luck with your English.

Hi Vanessa, this sounds so much like my experience. However I am learning Spanish through iTalki and have found that Spanish people trying to learn English are very happy to help me and are so patient as I stumble through ser/estar or por/para. I am sure that you will find the experience of speaking English on Skype will be less stressful than you imagine. I like to have the camera switched on as I find it very useful to see the person I am speaking to. You can always try giving me a call, I promise I don't bite!
