Почему я здесь?
Привет!
Меня зовут Том. Я американец. Я хочу знать говорить по-русски потому что я лингвист, русский язык мне интересен, я читаю русские книги по-английски, и я хочу знать больше о России и русских. Россия большая страна, и, когда я смотру карту мира, я вижу Россию. Что там? Кто там?
"По-русски": all the phrases like по-русски (in Russian), по-английски (in English) are written with a hyphon. They go just one и in the end because they are adverbs, not adjectives.
"Лингвист": You will quite often see the Russian в in the words where English has v. It's always better to doublecheck in the dictionary. As a linguist, you know that the English U and V have long been interchangeable in writing, so this is something that wouldn't shock you :)
"Русский язык мне интересен": интересно is neutral gender, интересен is masculine gender of the adjective's short form. Язык is masculine, so you need интересен here.
"Я хочу знать больше": больше means simply 'more'; большее = 'larger' (neutral gender), 'further', figuratively 'greater'. Here is a quote for you from Leo Tolstoy that demonstrates the use of большее:
Большее и большее соединение души человеческой с другими существами и Богом, и потому и большее и большее благо человека, достигается освобождением души...
(Stronger and stronger connection between the human soul with other creatures and with God, and, therefore, greater and greater happiness is achieved by the deliverance of the soul...)
"Я вижу Россию": just get used to the word order. No specific rules here, reading will help.
Never mind the punctuation yet. The rules are slightly different from English but you will get used to them gradually.
