Dear selection committee and other bureaucrats whom it may concern or not but that for some reason have to read this letter in order to file it, burn it or use it to (I think you need something here otherwise the last part of the sentence seems awkward.) even the desk's legs:

I chose the Monographic Course on Aesthetics to fulfill my desire of to widen broaden (there is breadth and depth of knowledge so I would use "broaden" or "deepen" here depending on your intent.) my knowledge on of this fascinating field. Arts theory has been one of my favorite subjects for the last several/few terms and, even though I had joined the classes of most of the professors most of the professors' classes (your way is correct, but this way is just a little less wordy) from this department, I was still feeling curious to dig more into Abstract Expressionism and confirm the outstanding reputation of Professor Pérez. I don’t intend to convince anybody. I think terrible things happen when someone convinces someone of something. I’ve also received other prizes before, and I can attest I made a poor use of them all. It is better to receive nothing and do things on your own. However, the course conducted by Dr. Pérez has overwhelmed my expectations on in terms of revealing the conceptual lines behind Rothko’s horizons on canvas, and I can’t overlook how crucial this is.

To study the sublime nature and futile impostures of non-figurative postmodern movements in the second half of the Twentieth Century has turned out to be an enlightening experience that, undoubtedly, has left a deep mark on my personal approach to researching on adverbial syntagms and its their influence on the way in which diachronic investigation issues are being solved at in academic environments now.

Thanks to Professor Pérez and his course the subject of my PhD is already decided and I look forward of to keeping the level of dedication that so far has granted me the ‘Cum Laude’ distinction. Performing an investigation of this weight is a lifetime challenge that I’m confident to succeed I will accomplish. Forwarding my cooperation with both departments of Arts Theory and Applied Linguistics through my thesis would represent the accomplishment of my academics goals, an absurdity actually, and the chance of beginning to begin a professional path that couldn’t better fit more my potentials and willingness on this ground (generally "willingness" would be used with doing something, e.g. my willingness to study. You might try somethiing like: "interest in this area" or some other variation to your liking.).

For the above-mentioned reasons I strongly believe in my total lack of competitive skills and that whoever obtains this prize would cover up a fruitful investment from this college in this college (I don't grasp the meaning here and "from this college in this college" sounds odd.) . At the same time, this reward would be a well deserved incentive to carry through awful things. I want to get it.

Sincerely,

me.

Good work Carmen!

Got it! :)

Bethany! :D It was supposed to be a writing exercise on how to structure an actual petition letter in English, but since I found that sole practice a little bit boring, I couldn't help to speak my mind. My competitive skills are usually nonexistent, but in case it was for real I'd definitely try to at least not to poke the committee's members eyes. It was completely ironic, as usual. ;D

One thing, though: is this meant to be ironic or serious? I assumed it was supposed to be ironic and for that reason didn't try to change much; if this were your actual petition for the fellowship (?) or grant (?) then I would try to "sell yourself" more. But I got the distinct impression that this was a joke petition.

You're welcome! Great job as usual!
