Do you know "AutoLib" ? Autolib is an electric car rental service in Paris. It consists in having an annual subscription, then going to a border of rent, and taking a car. You can drive in Paris and some cities near Paris. You have to leave the car at any border of rent (connecting the car to the load border seams you have finished the rental). The advantage is that you don't have to search a parking space ! I suppose that such a service exists in other countries... doesn't it ?

Do you know "AutoLib"?

Autolib is an electric car rental service in Paris.

It works with an annual subscription. You go to a rental location and take a car. You can drive in Paris and other nearly cities. You leave the car at any rental location and connect the car to the charger after you have finished using it.
You don't even have to search for a parking space!

I imagine similar services exist in other countries, right?

Hi Isabelle,

I live in Spain, and I've never seen this service here, but if it doesn't exist I imagine it won't be long until we get it. It's a brilliant idea.

*It's better to say: "It works by having a subscription" or "It involves/entails having a subscription" here. "Consists of" implies naming pieces/parts that are physical, i.e. A flashlight consists of a bulb, housing and batteries.

There's Zipcar that operates in New York that works similarly, but you have to reserve the car first, so your smartcard will unlock it. You have to put it back in the same spot though.

The "pick up and drop anywhere" concept is more like what we use for our Citi Bike bikeshare system.
