Discussions on italki When created this account on italki I thought it was interesting for having a "discussion" site to have the opportunity to have contact with new people, and different opinions, based on each culture and personality and I was amazed thinking that we could share our point of view of some subject and be able arguing to defend the own opinion (sharing the cultural values each person carries), obviously not attacking the discussion partner. But, for some reason people don't discuss a single thing, and most commented discussions are generally one-word answer games. Also, I noticed that trying to discuss was pointless because when someone tries to argue frequently the following person act like a mediator or there just isn't anyone anymore. So, if discuss isn't an option, I tried to ask about different cultures, at last I'd like to know new consuetudes and had faith that people would answer it. Well, unfortunatelly seems this isn't working either. I don't know if my idea of "discussion" is that wrong. What do you think about it? Could you please share your opinion? Thanks for reading, and sorry for the mistakes!

Yes Olia, I really am disappointed about discussions, but I don't think of moving from here, because as Alister said it's focused on interacting in different forms to improve language skills and I'm truly satisfied with the contacts I have here. What I think that would change is, nice people like you, Olia, that wants to discuss more actively, started to write more here and encourage more people as many as possible to discuss too...however it seems to be too utopic for just me, you and few other people to turn into reality.

I agree that Italki is the wrong site if you're looking to debate topics. Yet I think this is a strength of Italki, not a weakness. There are thousands of websites where you can debate topics, yet far fewer websites where you can have your writing corrected and can ask questions about learning a language. The more Italki can stay focused on its goal, of helping people learn a foreign language, the more beneficial it is to Italki members.

Agreed, I see that it is not a right site for discussions. If anyone has an idea about nice site for discussion please share and I will move from here.
