IELTS exam I've taken IELTS exam recently. I got score of 5.5 only. I didn't see that coming. I flunked the exam completely. I even haven't demonstrated that I have at least ‘competent’ English language ability because I haven't scored at least 6 on each of the four components of speaking, reading, listening and writing in an IELTS test. That's very disappointing for me. I've been learning English since elementary school. And that's more that 20 years for now. Frankly saying, I've never paid much attention to it, I simply hadn't thought that it's important. In my country, in Russia, we have only one official language which is Russian but many countries have national language as their official too, the real problem is that Russia was historically isolated for a long period of time during the Soviet Union epoch and the tendency of not speaking a single foreign language is still exists. I mean it was not only me, the whole society have an idea that it's not useful to speak a foreign language such as English. It's a silly excuse though. I realized just a few years ago that it's very important to speak English fluently in order to communicate throughout the world. I started to watch movies in English and read books. It turned out that my level is not sufficient to pass the exam successfully. My intention was to show proficient English: score of at least 7 on each of the four components of speaking, reading, listening and writing in an IELTS test. And I failed to do so. Here are my results: Listening: 6.5 Reading: 6.0 Writing: 5.0 Speaking: 5.0 Overall Band Score: 5.5 Still I don't think that IELTS score is really demonstrate the person's language level. Native speakers don’t always do so well at the exam and occasionally embarrass themselves by not getting, for example, a band 8 score. But IELTS exam is recognized by many organization, sometimes it's the only way to prove one's language ability. So we have to play by that rules. My appeal is to everyone who wants to improve their IELTS results. Let's practice together in order to improve our score!

IELTS exam

I've taken the IELTS exam recently. I got a score of 5.5 only. I didn't see that coming. I flunked the exam completely. I haven't even demonstrated that I have at least ‘competent’ English language ability because I haven't scored at least 6 on each of the four components of - speaking, reading, listening and writing in an IELTS test. That's very disappointing for me. I've been learning English since elementary school. And that's more that than 20 years for now. Frankly saying, I've never paid much attention to it, I simply hadn't thought that it's important. In my country, in Russia, we have only one official language which is Russian but many countries have a national language as their official too, the real problem is that Russia was historically isolated for a long period of time during the Soviet Union epoch and the tendency of not speaking a single foreign language is still exists. I mean, it was not only me, the whole society have has an (the) idea that it's not useful to speak a foreign language such as English. It's a silly excuse though.

I realized just a few years ago that it's very important to speak English fluently in order to communicate throughout the world. I started to watch movies in English and read books. It turned out that my level is not sufficient to pass the exam successfully. My intention was to show proficient English: score of at least 7 on each of the four components of - speaking, reading, listening and writing in an IELTS test. And I failed to do so.

Here are my results:
Listening: 6.5
Reading: 6.0
Writing: 5.0
Speaking: 5.0
Overall Band Score: 5.5

Still I don't think that an IELTS score is really demonstrates the a person's language level. Native speakers don’t always do so well at the exam and occasionally embarrass themselves by not getting, for example, a band 8 score. But the IELTS exam is recognized by many organizations, sometimes it's the only way to prove one's language ability. So we have to play by that those rules.

My appeal is to everyone who wants to improve their IELTS results. Let's practice together in order to improve our score!
