I just moved from Rome People usually ask me “Why did you leave Rome?!? it’s a beautiful city!” Well, it’s not an easy answer to give, I mean, Rome is a spectacular city, I love it, but at the same time it’s really stressing; when you have to go from one place to another place (ie. from home to job), it can take hours, both if you use your car even if you want to move using public transport (try to imagine to do it every day of the week). Take a house on rent is really expensive, you will probably take a small apartment outside the city (out of GRA, the main road which rounds Rome) and paying half of your salary for it (!) If you don’t live in the center of Rome (and believe me, it’s really TOO expensive), it’s difficult to take a walk in certain areas without your car, if you don’t live in center you are not in touch with its magic atmosphere… Anyway, I lived in Rome for about 13 years, I have a lot of friends, it is still the most beautiful city in Italy (from my point of view and from my heart point of view), but you can taste it and it looks great when you visit it as a tourist… So… where I moved? …Bologna! Bologna is a nice town in Emilia Romagna; no stress, no traffic, no expensive apartments, good food and good wine... That's all :D

Hello Ernesto,

I have met so many people on italki who live near Bologna for all of the same reasons you say. It's a shame because Italy is such a wonderful country, but like Spain, life has become more difficult in the laast few years.

I just moved from Rome

People usually often ask me, “Why did you leave Rome?", and then say, "it’s a beautiful city!” [In reported speech we must be careful to use ask/say/tell etc correctly]
