9/19/2014 The theft of Mona Lisa painting Mona Lisa painting was once stolen 100 years ago by an Italian man called Vincenzo Peruggia from Louvre in Paris. He was a Louvre worker, he stole the painting single-handedly by hiding it under his white artist’s smock, and left Louvre with it the next day. He hid the painting in a trunk in his apartment for two years. He then returned to Italy with it. This daring burglary has made Mona Liza a household name and an international recognized painting. During its absence for around 2 years, the image of Mona Lisa was printed on international newspapers. French police widely distributed 6,500 copies of posters for in Paris to jog people’s memory on the painting. There were some outcries from French people to plead the theft to return the painting back to them. For first time people were queuing up outside the Louvre just to see the empty space where the painting was once hung. The painting was recovered after Vincenzo Peruggia tried to sell it to an art gallery in Italy after two year. He claimed he did this for a patriotic reason. He wanted to bring the painting back to Italy for displaying in Italy. And with that Vincenzo Peruggia has also become a well-known art thief in the history. Please correct my writing , thank you.
