When I was small, one day I took a magnified glass and held it under the sun. It amplified the sunlight and burnt a pile of dried leaves into ashes.

When I was small young, one day I took a magnified glass one day and held it under the sun. It amplified (amplified is related to sound) heightened or intensified (just like what Rebecca suggested) the rays of sunlight and burnt burned a pile of dried leaves into ashes. -- Great job!
