Appearances on television by a professor The lecture contends that an appearance on television by a professor is beneficial neither to the professor nor to the school. Paradoxically, the reading passage offers strong arguments against this affirmation. On one hand, when a professor attends a tv show, he could gain a good reputation since, television is more popular than publications in an academic journal. In addition there are also some benefits for the school, one of them is publicity which enables more applications. On the other hand, the lecture advocates the idea that displays on television are usually superficial, at the same time they are just for fun not to educate, Second, this is a waste of time because, professors have to think what they are going to put forward or even how they will look on TV instead of spending their time on researches or lessons. Finally, the lecture says that the only benefit is that TV programs could show a small professors' background as well as academics titles.
