IELTS writing task 1 The graph shows telephone calls made in UK over 7 years in the UK. It compares local, national and international and mobiles calls by duration per year from 1995 to 2002. Generally, British people spent the most time on making calls locally. For instance, in 1999 local calls were at the peak, going up to 90 billion minutes while national and international calls were only reaching 50 billion minutes. Mobile calls were only about 13 billion minutes that year. However, local calls have been reduced rapidly since 2000. As shown on the graph, it’s obvious that mobile phones were becoming more and more popular. In 1995, only around 3 billion minutes of calls were made to mobile numbers. It has been boosting by about 30 percent each year, escalating up to 39 billion minutes in 2001 and 45 billion minutes in the following year. National and international calls are rising by relatively small amount each year as well. British population spent 37 billion minutes on national and international calls in 1995. The duration of calls went up to 60 billion minutes after 7 years in 2002. In conclusion, it’s clear that the nation spent increasing amount of time making calls especially to mobile phones.
