Introduction I'm going to talk about populism in the politic world in France. Here, populism means "peopolisation" in French. It is an excessive exposure of private life of an important person like a politician. It is an Anglo-Saxon neologism. Populism began with John Fitzgerald Kennedy, in the United States during the 1960's. He let the film cameras of the mass media filmed and photographed his private life. In United Kingdom, this practical is developed with the trash press such as the Sun, the Daily Express... In France it began about ten years later with Valery Giscard d'Estaing during his election campaign and his mandate with some meals at French people homes and filmed by the television media. This exposure is possible thanks to the trash press, the development of television in French people home. But also thanks to the government which wants to control and developed its proximity image with ordinary people. We can ask us a question : In which measure this command of politician image impinge on their private life and escape from their control ? If this populism allow to have advantages for the government, it is not without any danger.

Introduction

I'm going to discuss populism in the politic world in France. Here, populism means "peopolisation" in French. It is an excessive exposure of private life of an important person like a politician. It is an Anglo-Saxon neologism.
Populism began with John Fitzgerald Kennedy, in the United States during the 1960's. He let the film cameras of the mass media film and photograph his private life. In United Kingdom, this practice developed with the tabloid press such as the Sun, the Daily Express...
In France it began about ten years later with Valery Giscard d'Estaing during his election campaign and his mandate. He ate with French people in their homes whilst being filmed by the television media.
This exposure is possible thanks to the tabloid press, the development of television in the homes of French people. But it was also thanks to the government which wanted to control and allign its image more closely with ordinary people.

We can ask us a question : [I am not sure if this is what you mean, but perhaps this instead...] To what extent does a politician's image impinge on their own private lives and escape from their own control?

If this populism allow to have advantages for the government, it is not without any danger.

Introduction

I'm going to talk about populism in the political world in France. "Peopolisation" means "populism" in French. It is an excessive exposure of the private life of an important person, like a politician. It is an Anglo-Saxon neologism.
Populism began with John Fitzgerald Kennedy, in the United States during the 1960's. He let the cameras of the mass media to film and photograph his private life. In the United Kingdom, this practice was developed by the trash press, such as the Sun or the Daily Express.
In France it began about ten years ago during Valery Giscard d'Estaing's electoral campaign, his mandate and some meals at French people's homes filmed by the media.
This exposure is possible thanks to the trash press and the predominance of television in French homes, but also thanks to the government, which wants to control and develop an image of proximity to ordinary people.

We can ask ourselves a question : In which measure does this command of politician image impinge on their private life and escape from their control ?

If this populism allows for advantages for the government, it is not without any danger.
