I don't know how to chat with my language buddy :( I have joined a language buddy project, but i don't konw how to chat with my buddy. My language buddy is a girl form African and her English is quite fluent,which makes me quite nervous. I can't find the right words to express myself so for her it seems i always keep quiet, which leads to some misunderstanding that she considers me as indifferent. Actually i really want to chat with her as a friend, but i don't know how to do. She invited me to watch the paerformance yesterday, but i had to prepare for the meeting with my professor. That made her sad and me sorry. My classmate told me to talk in a informal way but i don't konw how to do. I am extremely worried now.:(

It seems from your entry that your English is very good. Sometimes, people can write English very well, but they don't have much experience of talking English. So, what you need is practice. You may find it difficult in the beginning, but over the period of time, it will be easy for you. For now, just tell her about your problem. I think, she will understand it.

I think you should be honest and tell her what you feel while you talk to her, and ask her to speak slowly. Your concerns are understandable and with some clarification she will know how to better interact with you. Remember that you can ask her what words you are looking for, by describing them, and she will probably gladly suggest them to you.
