A brief introduction about my hobby
Hello, everyone, this is my first post.
My name is Cherie, a student(,) are now studying in (the) UK. I am a native speaker of Mandarin. I wish (that) one day I can speak and write fluent English because I want to study English literature for (my) MA.
I love literature and history. Now I am reading LOTR and Harry Potter, and some classics.
Before I started to read (the) English version of Harry Potter, I have done (can also say "read") the Chinese version. I didn't think the series are(was) very attractive for (to) me. When I started the original version, I have (had a) totally different reading experience about HP. The original version showed me many marvellous (marvelous) images about (the) Western magical world. I got (received) many (a lot of) knowledges about western legendary and mythical creatures.
The original version and translated ones are very different, for example(,) JK wrote (about) a creature in HP,(a) goblin, an legendary creature who run (ran[past tense]) Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
In (the) Chinese version, they translated goblin for “妖精” in Chinese. This is an obscure concept in Chinese (, which) means "elf". If I read (the) English version, it (is) very easy to figure out an image about (a) goblin, a mythical creature with spiky ears, and they love money。 However the translated verison just (does) not make any sense (when talking) about the real image about (of a) goblin.
Now I think HP is very wonderful story. It told me a lot knowledge about mythical creature and folklore in the concept of western tradition.
As for J.R.R Tolkien, I have to say the English of LOTR is really difficult, I can't read it as fast as I read HP, but the coverage of myths and folklore are more extensive.
