French after 2 weeks + Michel Thomas thoughts I have recently started learning French (only 2 weeks ago) and I have absolutely been loving every second of it. It's great that I now have time to do things I couldn't do when I was studying my degree. Now, I can really focus and enjoy things that I've wanted to do (like learn French). I started my French learning by completing at least 30xp per day on Duolingo. I was so enthusiastic about it that I decided to research other language help websites and came across Memrise, which I have been using daily. Through my research I also became very intrigued about Michel Thomas method of learning - essentially you don't think about what's around you just focusing on what you are listening to and learning... there's no pressure to write things down in fact it is highly not recommended. I just finished the first CD of it and I have to say it was simply amazing. The was you start off by saying 'It is for me' (C'est por moi) and ending 1 hour later by being able to ask a simple question about Economic/Political issues relating to a country (Quel est situation politique en France?). So simple, yet can generate so much conversation. I even tried to make up my own answer by saying The situation is ok in France but my brother is not happy because he thinks they are not confident. (La situation est bien meis, mon frére est pas content car il pense ton est pas de confiance). This is a made up reply but I was really happy that I could just try and think about it and extend what I know. The only downside to Michel Thomas method is that you cannot improve your Writing and Reading, but you improve your general ability. So far, I love learning French. I would like to start practising with people soon but I feel I'm just not at that level yet nor do I know what to talk about haha. I'll keep everyone posted on my French acquisition. :)

Great! I want to learn French to because I´m a native brazilian and speak Portuguese. I think the both languages are similiar in their structure but I think maybe it can be confusing for me. With your post I will think better about. Thanks
