Old House 2

Morning fog took the old house in its soft captivity. The plaster on its walls was covered in a network of fine cracks. Drops of water collected as if in a creek, and then they flowed down the unpredictable trajectory. Here a child would have seen a map of the Amazon estuary, with himself in a canoe floating on the dangerous water. Inside, the house had [1] a wooden staircase with "musical" steps, and a loft with some pigeons. The creaking steps and cooing pigeons did not give loneliness live in this house.

[1]  The entire rest of the paragraph was written in the past tense, so it was necessary to use the past tense "had".

The very last phrase which I underlined is hard to understand.  Here is something which I think comes close to what you wanted to say:  ... did not give an air of loneliness to the house.
