Scientific Research Scientific research helps our human life more modern and convenient in many aspects. Since appearing, it has been mostly conducted by state projects but more and more private companies are making up a greater percentage of this kind of research nowadays. This growth of privately funded research has its own advantages and disadvantages. The number one purpose of private research is to make more profit on more efficient products. Therefore, they will take all use of time to make new inventions without spending too much time and money as in state departments. For example, the medicine field in America privatized widespead has made new kinds of drug to treat many risky diseases in time and the price much cheaper. As a result, our people will pay less money on taxes and the government accordingly has more money to invest in more prior projects. Profit makes advantages but also causes bad situations. Private companies will only do research with commercial posibilities in their area. Because of that, they may have a narrow vision, so we may miss out on future opportunities. In addition, some areas of important research may be ignored or even resisted if there is no obvious yield potential. For instance, car companies are not ready to support solar power to be applied in their products that is much more expensive in comparison with cheaper ones like oil, gas or petroleum. Overall, the increase in private research is good and bad for our society between a shorter time, cheaper price and bad situations for future chance of growth. Therefore, I believe that we should encourage both kinds of research because we all need them for a balanced development ahead of humans.
