The difference between learning English and Chinese

I think the biggest difference is in the grammar of each language. English achieves temporal variation of sentences by modifying the word type but Chinese is nothing like it. I can't distinguish the different tenses from each other. I also have difficulty in recognizing speech. Could you please help me?
