The Amish I am now living in Shipshewana, Indiana where there are many Amish people. Shipshewana is a very small town where you see horse and carriage (called horse and buggy here locally) and cars and trucks all share the same street. One thing I like about many Amish people I've talked to is their interest in pure and natural foods. They are interesting as they still use horses to plow the fields of their farms. They get good exercise with all the work regarding taking care of the horses and also their bicycle riding. They are not allowed to drive cars as it is against their religion, but they hire non-Amish people to drive them places if the places are too far for the horse and buggy.

I want to say more, but it's the end of the day now and I'm tired.

You know, this has become a very interesting dialogue. Your cousin must have enjoyed raising the goat so much.

Exactly :) It's even like this in here; I like that kids in the villages in my country know a lot about animals and how to take care of them. Actually one of my little cousins who was born and raised in a village, bought a goat when it was born and he spent few months feeding it and then he sold it:) And he also takes care of the chickens they're keeping for the eggs. While kids in the city are stuck with ipads and video games, so I totally understand your point and also agree with you about the slower paced life, I miss it as well! In the media Amish aren't given much credit to be honest and they're always shown as weird people specially because of the horse and buggy! But you don't see many people pointing out the good things about them like being family and community oriented. I was surprised when my friend told that they have shops that he can go to, because they're shown as a very closed community in the movies and that they don't like to deal with others that are not Amish like them. Thank you for telling me all that about them and yes, I like your word a lot :)

One more thing that is interesting to me about the Amish around here is that in the summer many Amish families get together to play volleyball. I know you don't have to be Amish to play volleyball, but this is just something I've noticed. They are very community oriented.

Thanks for the positive thoughts. One thing I like about the Amish is their shops, too. There are what might be called old-fashioned items there, but I am really impressed with some of this old fashionedness (do you like my word?) of the children's toys in one shop in particular. There are lot of small horses and cows for children's parents to buy for their kids. Some children that live in large cities have no idea where milk comes from other than a container from the store. Amish kids know where milk comes from. Amish kids run barefoot outside in the summer. City kids just can't run barefoot so easily outside. I don't think I'd like to only have the option of horse and buggy or a bicycle (yet I'm a bicyclist), but there's also something special about a slower pace of life. Even if I wasn't Amish, I'd like to raise my own chickens.
