The Challenges and Triumphs of Learning English
Anyone who has ever tried to learn a foreign language knows that there are a lot of challenges, difficulties, and even frustrations along the way.
The first problem is how to start. Our lives are busy. We want to relax after the working day and watch TV or go out with friends or even just sleep. Where is the time for studying? We have no time.
Well, let's imagine that you managed to motivate yourself to begin learning and you're attending some English school twice a week. The next problem is, how does one maintain the motivation to keep practicing/learning the language over the long term, and not just for a month or two. Just start and don't break (meaning unclear). Even then we still might not have enough time. Moreover, we might not have enough money for English school, and even if we did, we might become bored and lose interest after several months.
Let's say we have been attending a couple of language schools for the last two years without taking a break. Our English has improved steadily over the first year, but then reached a plateau. Even though we have put in a lot of effort, we are still nevertheless not yet fluent and keep making the same mistakes. We are frustrated by our lack of progress.
If the difficulties are so great, what, then, is the benefit of learning English? First of all, in our digital era knowing English allows you to connect with the whole world. You can easily make new friends while traveling abroad and keep up with them afterwards. Moreover, English can help you get by in any country, because it's an international language. Even in your own country you can earn a higher salary in a lot of professions because of English. And last, but not the least, learning a foreign language improves brain function.
In my opinion, learning English is worth doing, because you will get all kinds of opportunities to explore the world.
