A letter to my friend Hi Alex! I’m glad you accepted my request. I’d like to improve my knowledge for many reasons. First of all, I like languages, particularly English. The other reason is that nowadays it’s impossible to find a good job without language skills besides any degree. I can prove that, because I worked in London for few months till February last year and it was a very hard period in my life not only because of the hard-working days, but because of the communication with people. Then I made a vow that I would learn English as soon as possible, so I began studying intensively six months ago. I chose quite a strange way to learn. I’m a self-taught person. I chose this way because I’ve read some instructions from teachers who prefer modern methods of studying. They say that people don’t need to attend “conventional” schools, because they’re outdated and there are better, easier and funnier ways. Unfortunately I had no money for modern ways of studying, so I had to choose internet for help. And I didn’t regret it at all. I learn very little grammar. That is crucial. Instead, I read novels for young adults, watch bunch of movies with English subtitles and listen to podcast a lot. Experts have made researches and the results have been surprising. The less one learns grammar and the more reads novels, watches movies and listens to podcasts, the learning more effective is. Reportedly, the reason for that is our subconscious. It’s interesting that I understand much more than I can speak, so I prefer texting instead of VoIP, as I can think about some words (if necessary I can use dictionary, because my vocab isn’t so rich), but I hope that after a while I’m going to be brave enough to video chat with my friends. You asked me what I did for a living. I’m electrician. But I have no job at the moment, so I’d like to take advantage of that and I’ll learn language till spring when I’d like to try again to work abroad. I hope that we really can help each other to improve our skills, so I’d like to ask you to check the spelling and grammar of my texts and correct them and don’t hesitate to write me in Hungarian. I’ll do my best to help you as well. When you’ll have time tell me something about you and your job at gym, your hobbies etc. Bye!
